Char-Griller was founded in 1994 by entrepreneur Dan Thiess, originally from Georgia. The Char-Griller brand quickly caught the attention of barbecue enthusiasts with its barrel-shaped charcoal barbecues. The barrel design allowed for even heat distribution and made it easier to smoke and grill food using a variety of techniques.
The company was among the first to create barbecues capable of integrating both gas and charcoal grilling into a single unit.
