Established in the late 19th century as a cheese selling undertaking the company grew in importance from 1920 to 1940 when it turned into one of the major companies dedicated to maturing Grana Padano and other hard cheeses. Zanetti purchased the Marmirolo (Mantova) cheese factory in 1946 and began its industrial activity. In the post-war period Zanetti was one of the very first companies to launch itself into the export business. Zanetti SpA is now an Italian and global leader in the production of Italian cheeses, in compliance with the standards set by PDO (Protected Designation of Origin).
